A Florida man accused of stealing multiple bottles of tequila from a liquor store was later arrested for DUI, authorities said.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said surveillance video showed the suspect stealing multiple bottles of tequila by stuffing them into a backpack.

It’s believed he stole thousands of dollars’ worth of tequila from the retailer, authorities said.

Investigators used surveillance video and other methods to identify the suspect as 31-year-old Michael Anthony Ruiz of Port St. Lucie, the sheriff’s office said.

But before he could be arrested for the liquor theft, Ruiz was arrested for driving under the influence in another jurisdiction, officials said.

He was booked into jail on DUI charges, and also faces theft and other charges, records show.

Authorities believe Ruiz may be responsible for similar thefts involving tequila and other merchandise.
