No-swim advisory issued after wastewater spill on Singer Island
The 1,200-gallon discharge was quickly contained, Riviera Beach spokesman says.
RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. —
After a wastewater spill from a lift station on Singer Island, the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County issued a health alert for no swimming or irrigation at nearby waterways.
About 1,200 gallons of wastewater spilled from lift station 10 at Park Avenue near Peanut Island on Thursday, but it quickly was contained in 15 minutes, Riviera Beach city spokesman Walter Stephens told WPBF on Saturday.

The spill is near Phil Foster Park, which is run by the county.
“Until further information is known regarding possible bacterial contamination, residents and visitors in the area are urged to take precautions when in contact with the above waterways in Palm Beach County,” DOH said.
Drinking water is not affected in Riviera Beach, the agency posted Thursday.
The City of Riviera Beach is coordinating testing and cleanup actions with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
Water contaminated with high levels of fecal bacteria can cause disease, infections or rashes.
Anyone who comes into contact with the water in this area should wash thoroughly, especially before eating or drinking.
Children, the elderly and those who are immunocompromised may still be at risk even at low concentrations and should avoid any exposure.
