The White Sox hit four home runs, including blasts from Miguel Vargas, Andrew Benintendi, Munetaka Murakami, and Colson Montgomery, to beat the AL-leading Rays 6-1 on Friday night.

The Chicago White Sox rode a four-homer attack to a 6-1 victory over the American League-leading Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night at Tropicana Field.

Miguel Vargas led off the scoring with a monster 433-foot solo home run in the first inning, the longest of his career.

Andrew Benintendi followed Vargas’s long ball with a solo shot of his own in the second to make it 2-0. Munetaka Murakami then launched a two-run homer in the third, his 24th of the season, tying the Japanese rookie home run record held by Kazuma Okamoto.

Colson Montgomery capped the power display with a two-run blast in the sixth that pushed the lead to 6-1.

Vargas, Murakami, and Montgomery have now homered in the same game five times this season, the first trio to accomplish that feat since Cody Bellinger, Corey Seager, and Joc Pederson for the Dodgers in 2019.

Erick Fedde earned the win with five solid innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six. The White Sox bullpen closed it out cleanly, with Trevor Richards closing the door in the ninth.

Junior Caminero provided the Rays’ only offense with his team-leading 30th home run of the season in the fourth inning.

The win improved the White Sox to 58-51 and extended their winning streak to three games as they continue to sit atop the AL Central. It was a statement victory against one of the strongest teams in the American League.

The series continues on Saturday afternoon with the first pitch of game two scheduled for 3:10 pm CT.
