MARTIN COUNTY — A daily drive can help put a child on the road to a brighter future through the Big Brothers Big Sisters Florida specialty license plate.
Proceeds from the plate support mentoring programs in Martin County and across Florida, including those offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin counties.
Available through the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the specialty tag costs $25 annually in addition to the standard vehicle registration fee. The full amount supports youth mentoring.
Proceeds go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Florida and its network of 11 local agencies, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The funding supports one-to-one mentoring relationships, training and support for volunteer mentors and resources for children in the program.
Money from the plates helps recruit and train mentors in Palm Beach and Martin counties, expand access to mentoring services and support workplace readiness programs.
Residents can request the Big Brothers Big Sisters specialty plate at a Martin County Tax Collector’s Office. Appointments are available at the main office, 3485 S.E. Willoughby Blvd., Stuart; 11734 S.E. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound; 16550 S.W. Warfield Blvd., Indiantown; and 3001 S.W. Martin Downs Blvd., Palm City.
Drivers do not have to wait until their vehicle registration renewal to change their license plate.
Because the Palm Beach and Martin County tax collector offices do not offer online specialty plate ordering, residents who prefer to order online may use a neighboring county’s tax collector website that offers the service or a licensed Florida courier tag agency.
Tag agencies may charge convenience, service and shipping fees. Customers will need their current license plate number, insurance company and policy number and a copy of a valid Florida driver’s license.
New Martin County residents can select the Big Brothers Big Sisters specialty plate when registering a vehicle through the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Drivers seeking a personalized plate can check availability through the department’s Personalized Plate Inquiry tool, complete an Application for Personalized License Plate and submit it at a tax collector’s office.
Those who already have the plate are encouraged to share a photo on social media to help promote the program and recruit additional mentors.
