Leesburg man struck, killed while trying to cross highway near Tampa, troopers say
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. —
A Leesburg man was killed and a Miami man suffered serious injuries when they were struck by a vehicle Friday night as they tried to cross a highway near Tampa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:50 p.m. Friday on State Road 574, west of North 68th Street, troopers said.
According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the two men were attempting to cross the highway and entered the path of a Chevy Equinox that was being driven westbound by a 72-year-old Largo man. The Chevy then struck the men, the report states.
The 42-year-old Leesburg man was pronounced dead at the scene while the 54-year-old Miami man was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, troopers said.
