St. Johns County announced Friday that First Coast Energy, the Jacksonville-based owner and operator of Daily’s convenience stores, has withdrawn its application for an amendment that would have allowed it to build the project on an approximately 7.7-acre property on State Road 13 North.
This story continues below.
The Board of County Commissioners was set to hold a public hearing on the Small-Scale Comprehensive Plan Amendment proposal at its Aug. 4 meeting. A reason for the withdrawal was not provided and it is unclear if the proposal will go before the county again.
The development faced protests from residents, who said it would cause traffic hazards for the Fruit Cove Estates neighborhood and the children who use a nearby school bus stop.
This was the third time First Coast Energy attempted to develop that site since 2016.
