TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – As kids settle back into the school routine, experts say turning the page on a good book shouldn’t end with summertime.

WCTV spoke with FSU Florida Center for Reading Research, Nicole Patton-Terry.

She shared that making reading a year-round habit can strengthen brain development and set kids up for success beyond the classroom.

Patton-Terry said as kids read more, they are able to improve their communication skills, absorb more knowledge and freely express themselves.

For ways on how to make reading more fun for your kid, Patton-Terry suggested allowing them to pick a book, re-reading one of their favorites or finding a book connected to their daily routine.
