Virginia woman accused of mailing threats to kill, sexually assault Florida officials

FORT MYERS, Fla. (CBS12) — A Virginia woman has been arrested after investigators said she mailed threatening letters to a Florida lawmaker, a sheriff’s office employee and a judge.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Jasmyn Osborne, 27, of Petersburg, Virginia, faces three counts of making a written or electronic threat to kill or cause bodily injury.

The investigation began in June 2025 after a Florida state representative and an employee of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received letters threatening to sexually assault and kill them, according to FDLE. Investigators later learned that a Sarasota County judge had received a similar letter.

FDLE said the letters were submitted to the agency’s forensic laboratories for analysis. Investigators determined Osborne had written them, according to the agency.

An arrest warrant was issued in Collier County on March 19. Osborne was arrested in Petersburg and extradited to Florida on July 16, when she was booked into the Collier County Jail.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police assisted in the investigation.

Prosecutors in Florida’s 12th and 20th judicial circuits and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office are handling the charges associated with their respective jurisdictions. FDLE said Osborne is expected to be transferred to Sarasota and Miami-Dade counties.

The investigation remains active.
