TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Students at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend recently took part in an agriculture workshop, learning how to grow their own plants and how to build an agricultural business.
“I loved it because my dad has a garden at home,” 13-year-old Nykia Davis said.
The workshop was in partnership with the American Farm to Institute, where students also learned how to make organic lemonade and seed bombs.
“These skills are just super important for all of our kids – for everybody – to understand how to grow your own food,” Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend CEO Kacy Dennis said. “It is extremely important for our kids to have hands-on learning opportunities.”

Students were able to get a firsthand look at how drone technology is used in farming and they were also able to play with a baby goat.
At the end of the workshop, kids were able to take seeds home to start their own gardens with their families.
“I’m going to tell him what I learned and help him with the garden and make sure that all the plants are going to grow,” Davis said.
