TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – Drivers at the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus may notice a new warning sign near the Crescent Hill Garage.
A duck crossing sign was recently installed near the garage entrance and exit along USF Holly Court.
The sign follows an online fundraiser campaign organized by USF community member Kaylee Ortega to raise awareness about ducks and ducklings crossing the busy roadway.
Ortega said ducks are a familiar sight on campus, but the area near the garage can be dangerous for them. The online fundraiser campaign says adult ducks and ducklings have been hit by vehicles while crossing the road.
The campaign called for warning signs and other safety changes to help protect wildlife near the garage.
Ortega said she hopes the new sign is the first of several wildlife-safety improvements on the USF campus.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and watch for ducks and other animals near the Crescent Hill Garage.
