The Sunshine State just got a little easier to explore. Spirit Airlines has officially touched down at the Southernmost Point, launching the only nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Key West International Airport.

The new flights give South Floridians a fast, affordable alternative to the long drive down the Overseas Highway, connecting travelers to the heart of the Florida Keys in under an hour.

“Key West lives up to its reputation as an island paradise, and now Fort Lauderdale travelers can get to their Florida Keys vacation in under an hour,” said Andrea Lusso, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. “As South Florida’s hometown airline, we’re proud to expand our Florida footprint and introduce a convenient and affordable way for guests across our network to reach the Southernmost Point.”

The flight takes under an hour. By comparison, the drive between Fort Lauderdale and Key West typically takes about four hours.

Flights will operate up to three times weekly on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, ramping up to daily service on Dec. 18, 2025, for the holiday season. The new connection opens easy access to Key West’s signature experiences, from strolling Duval Street to sunset sails and coral reef excursions.

“Spirit Airlines beginning service at Key West International Airport is a win for tourism and the Florida Keys,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports. “This convenient new route will connect the Keys to dozens of destinations across Spirit’s network, further broadening our global reach.”

The addition of Key West marks Spirit’s eighth destination in Florida, joining Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, Tampa, and West Palm Beach — giving travelers from cities like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Newark, New York, and Philadelphia a new one-stop gateway to the Keys.
