Miami is gearing up for the 2026 August 18 Primary Election, and if you don’t know where to start with all of the upcoming deadlines, details and candidates, we have you covered. When is the 2026 Primary Election?
The primary is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, but early voting has already begun and will run through August 16. Unlike Election Day, you do not have to vote at an assigned polling location during early voting. Here is a full list of early voting locations in Miami-Dade County:

When do I need to register to vote by?
The last day to have registered to vote in the Primary Election was July 20. If you want to check your voter registration status, head to votemiamidade.gov.

How to vote by absentee ballot
Registered voters have the option to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot here, and keep in mind that it’s important to do so on the earlier side. The final day to request one is August 6, and all absentee ballots must be received by the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections no later than 7 p.m. on August 18.
What can I expect on the ballot?
Because the specific candidates will depend on your home address and party affiliation (Florida is a closed primary state), some of the offices and measures on your ballot will vary. Key races include everything from the U.S. Senate to Florida governor. You can view a sample ballot online here.
Voters also residing within the City of Miami will have special referendums to vote on: moving city elections to even-numbered years and a management agreement to operate events at the long-abandoned Miami Marine Stadium.
How do I vote on Election Day?

If you’re voting in person on Election Day, August 18, you can head to your assigned precinct to cast your vote. You must show a photo ID.
Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you’re in line by 7 p.m., you’re allowed to cast your ballot. In other words, don’t get out of line, even if it’s past the closing time. You can find your polling place and learn more about in-person voting here.
