Miami Hurricanes ready to start process of getting back to National Championship
CORAL GABLES, Fla. —
The Miami Hurricanes quest to get back to the National Championship and with the program’s 6th title begins Tuesday when the team begins training camp.
Monday the team hosted media day where players echoed the theme of needing to prove themselves once again.
“I know coach Cristobal help us with that. He tells us all the time that that was the 2025 team and this is the 2026 team and there is nothing we did last year that can help us this year,” said receiver Malachi Toney.
Yes, the 2026 Canes aren’t the 2025 Canes, but they have plenty of firepower returning including Maxwell Award watch list honorees receiver Malachi Toney and running back Mark Fletcher Jr.
“The first thing you do is take all the good things you did and all the bad things you did and try to learn from it,” said Fletcher Jr.
Taking over at quarterback this season transferring from Duke is Darian Mensah who is already receiving rave reviews from teammates.
“It feels like home. The culture here just is built on family and it feels likes a family here,” Mensah said.

Miami is loaded with local South Florida talent and new to the program this Fall is Vero Beach product Vandrevious Jacobs, who transferred from from South Carolina and West Boca freshman running back Javian Mallory.
“Now that I’m here and into the program learning about the culture being with guys 24/7, it’s a blessing and I’m excited for the season,” said Mallory.
“All my teammates have been welcoming and helping me with anything I need. They are putting in time with the plays and making me wanted here,” said Jacobs.
The Hurricanes open up their season on the West Coast, September 4th at Stanford.
