Port St. Lucie Police have identified the victim and suspect in an apparent murder-suicide.
Officers reported to shots fired at a home on Southeast Oxmoor Terrace on Saturday night. They found 50-year-old Elizabeth Ortega suffering from gunshot wounds outside the home. 50-year-old Ralph Varela was found dead inside.
Ortega was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Investigators say the couple’s son had just left to pick up dinner when the shooting occurred. Varela shooting Ortega inside the home and then surveillance video shows the woman running outside in an attempt to escape, but cops say Varela continued shooting until she collapsed on the front lawn.
