A welfare check led to a more than six-hour standoff that nearly ended in a deputy-involved shooting after a man allegedly pointed a shotgun at deputies through a window, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 8:09 p.m. Sunday to 2170 Lake Juanita Road to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised about a man’s mental state and the care of the animals on his property.
