Back to School: Tradition Lakes K-8 prepares to open in St. Lucie County
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. —
Tradition Lakes K-8 in St. Lucie County is set to open its doors on Aug. 10, offering much-needed classroom space for one of the county’s fastest-growing communities.
Crews have worked throughout the summer to prepare the campus for its first group of students. Principal Latanya Greene said the school’s motto, “Traditions begin here,” reflects the focus on building a foundation of achievements and accomplishments.

“Throughout this process, we have talked a lot about traditions and accomplishments and the achievements that we want to build and grow at this school. Hence, our motto for the school year is that tradition leads K through eight. Traditions begin here,” Greene said.
Tradition K-8, the newest school in St. Lucie County, is set to open on August 10, providing classroom space for the rapidly growing Tradition area.

Greene emphasized that months of planning have gone into creating an environment where students can grow academically and socially.
“It’s about being in an environment that you can grow and continue with great levels. But bigger than that, you begin to set the tone of creating those strong academics that move with you from year to year to year. You develop friendships,” Greene said.
The new campus comes at a critical time for the Tradition area, where population growth has led to overcrowding at nearby schools. District leaders expect as many as 1,600 students on opening day, with many families benefiting from the school’s convenient location.
“We are busting at the seams in the south and the west. And this school is so conveniently located to families that we’re going to have a tremendous number of students that are walking or even other parents dropping the kids off in a golf cart,” said John R. Prince, superintendent of St. Lucie County Public Schools.
As the first day approaches, Greene said success will be measured not only by academics but also by the sense of community created during the school’s inaugural year.
“The academics component is going to be there, but it is going to be walking through this inaugural year and looking back on all the traditions that we have created as a team, as a family, and the strength of our culture, and how we just grow throughout the first year will be beyond the definition of success for us,” Greene said.
Tradition Lakes K-8 will officially open on August 10, marking the beginning of a new chapter for students and families in the Tradition area.
