A North Carolina family’s vehicle was sent spinning and crashing into a fence during a road rage incident in Florida, deputies said.
Michael Jeffrey Spiers, 36, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened over the weekend on Interstate 95.
Deputies said Spiers originally targeted another vehicle after the driver said he was chasing her in a parking lot at a gas station and then followed her onto the highway.
Spiers then tried to run that driver off the road.
During the incident, Spiers tried to run both vehicles off the road at separate times and then used a PIT maneuver on the family’s vehicle, which sent it crashing into a barbed-wire fence.
Body camera footage showed a blue vehicle that crashed into the fence, as well as the family, including a child, coming out of the brush area.
In another piece of body camera footage, Spiers was talking to deputies and telling them that he was hit by the blue vehicle, started chasing them, and the vehicle tried to run him off the road, which caused the PIT maneuver.
Spiers was then placed in handcuffs.
Deputies said there was a dog in Spiers’ vehicle at the time of the incident, but it was unharmed.
No injuries were reported.
