TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – For the past 11 weeks, we’ve given you three nominees for you to vote on. Every week, one of those plays brought home Play of the Week honors.
This week, our 12th and final Play of the Week winner of the school year. Berrien, Clinch County, and Leon all with nominees, all three, from red and white teams, but it’s the red and white of Leon High who takes home top honors.
Wide receiver Macai Wilson had the turnaround grab for the touchdown, one of two for the junior on the night.
Wilson is 6′6, so there’s not much that gets by him. Leon was looking to punch it in, and after a previous play didn’t get the result they wanted, Wilson said he knew the ball was coming to him and he knew he had to finish the job.
“It feels great to be able to step up for my team in a big game like the homecoming game,” he said. “Being able to make a big time play like that are the ones I’m supposed to make. It starts with the offensive line making the good snap, getting the ball to the quarterback, and of course the offensive coordinator believing in me and my coaches. Leon has an amazing fan base, a lot of alumni and history behind the program, so I thank everybody that voted for me.”
Wilson will join the 11 other Play of the Week winners, who will battle it out for Play of the Year. Our first week of voting will begin Friday, so be sure to look out for that poll.
