MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — A South Florida man was sentenced to more than 26 years in federal prison after prosecutors said he shot a woman multiple times and forced a rideshare driver to become his getaway driver at gunpoint.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, Bakari Jaheim Dixson, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping, one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
“After shooting a woman multiple times, Bakari Jaheim Dixson turned a hired driver into his getaway driver at gunpoint and threatened to kill him if he did not comply,” U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones said. “This was a terrifying act of violence that showed complete disregard for human life. The more than 26-year sentence imposed holds Dixson accountable and protects the public from a dangerous armed offender.”

Court records show that on Aug. 2, 2025, Dixson hired a chauffeur service in Fort Lauderdale. While the driver was waiting to pick him up, prosecutors said the driver witnessed an altercation involving Dixson that ended with Dixson shooting a woman multiple times.
According to prosecutors, Dixson and several associates then got into the driver’s vehicle and ordered him to “drive or be killed.”
Fearing for his life, the driver took Dixson and the others from Fort Lauderdale to West Park before dropping them off at Dixson’s home, prosecutors said.
Dixson was arrested 11 days later in Omaha, Nebraska.
