Back-to-school: Important safety, awareness and life skill conversations to help kids stay prepared
Brent Moore of the Children’s Safety Village offers advice on essential safety conversations and practices for families as the school year approaches.
ORLANDO, Fla. —
With the school year approaching, Brent Moore, executive director of Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida, joined WESH 2 to share advice on how parents can help protect their children through safety conversations and practical exercises.
The Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida is a nonprofit organization focused on preventing injuries and fatalities among children through education and firsthand experiences.
The organization provides programs and services including pedestrian safety, bike and helmet safety, dangerous person awareness and the Walk-Ride-Thrive program.
Moore highlighted the importance of parents having safety conversations with their children before the new academic year starts.
These discussions may include teaching kids about safe people, trusting their instincts, and knowing basic information such as their parents’ phone numbers, their home address, and who to ask for help.
He also suggested that parents practice real-life scenarios with their children to reinforce safety skills without creating fear or anxiety.
