Fort Pierce police search for driver in hit-and-run involving two children

The Fort Pierce Police Department is searching for a driver accused of hitting two children with a car and then leaving the scene over the weekend.

According to police, the crash happened Saturday on 25th Street near the Elks Lodge in Fort Pierce.

Investigators said the driver, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, stopped briefly to check on the children after the crash but then drove away before authorities arrived.

Police are looking for a gold Mercedes-Benz that may have damage to the driver’s side.

One of the children was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The condition of the second child has not been released.
