18-year-old arrested in deadly shooting of 4-year-old in Orlando, police say

Allison PetroORLANDO, Fla. —

An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a 4-year-old in Pine Hills, according to the Orlando Police Department.

The suspect was identified as Brandon McCloud.

The incident happened on July 17 at around 11:34 a.m. when police officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Stella West Apartments.

While on scene, police located a 4-year-old child with a gunshot wound, according to OPD.

The child was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead due to the injuries.

Police said they later determined McCloud was handling the gun in a careless manner, which resulted in the child’s death.

He is now charged with one count of manslaughter, according to police.

Orange County arrest records show that McCloud was arrested on July 28 after police went to an apartment complex to collect his DNA.

The document said McCloud was walking with another male toward the front of the apartment complex and began fleeing after police approached him.

The police officer made multiple verbal lawful commands for him to stop running, but McCloud continued running toward his apartment, according to the arrest affidavit.

In an effort to make McCloud stop, the police officer said he deployed his taser.

Records show that McCloud was charged with resisting an officer without violence.
