Tampa’s unofficial holiday, 813 Day, celebrates the second-oldest area code in Florida (if you have a 656 area code, you can still come).
Parties are happening across Hillsborough County on Aug. 13, including one that features Old Time Sailors, a straight up sea shanty ensemble.
The band’s show is an immersive experience featuring an ensemble cast of nearly two dozen people performing traditional foot-stomping shanties, Irish and Scottish folk and maritime-themed songs of the 19th century.
Tickets to see the 813 Day “Pirate Invasion” at New World Tampa on Thursday, Aug. 13 are still available and start at $24.99.
Here are more places to celebrate 813 Day this year.
Sparkman Wharf and Florida Aquarium
Sparkman Wharf and The Florida Aquarium on Channelside Drive are celebrating with a discounted admission of $8.13 on Aug. 13. The day will include restaurant and retail deals across Water Street and Sparkman Wharf, a DJ, and special appearances by both Tampa Bay’s sports mascots and The Florida Aquarium’s mole salamander axolotl costumed character, Xochi. 5 p.m.-8:13 p.m.
813 Day Bash
The second annual 813 Day Bash presented at Unlock Tampa Bay Visitors Center at 201 N Franklin St #102 is free for everybody to enjoy food, drinks, and shopping from local Tampa Bay businesses. Tampa Bay’s favorite sports team mascots will be there to take pictures with. The first 50 people to visit the Unlock Tampa Bay Visitors Center table will receive this year’s 813 Day t-shirt.
Hyde Park Village
Bouzy in Hyde Park Village celebrates with $8 cocktails and martinis during happy hour. South Tampa’s most beautiful tiny hotel Palihouse, will also have Aperol spritzes for $8.13 for one hour only (starting at 8:13 p.m., obviously). In fact, there are dozens of 813 Day specials in the village all listed at hydeparkvillage.com. Across the block, there’s $8.13 off all Tampa-embroidered snapbacks at Coastal Cowgirls Collective, 813-branded bandanas, sweet dog treats at Downtown Dogs. The village will also feature live music throughout the day.
RPRC 813 Community Day
Not every 813 Day party is self-serving. The Rolling Proud Community Club brings residents, businesses, and healthcare organizations together to promote health and wellness while supporting underserved students throughout the Bay area. The event takes place at the Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy at 4302 N 24th St. The free event is expected to include music, vendors, raffles, trivia giveaways and more. 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
813 Day School Supply Drive
The Skatepark of Tampa on 4215 E Columbus Dr. celebrates with a hardcore show featuring Exit Strategy, Outworld, Watch List, Suffering Spirit and Xerocide. The event is only $5 in advance and $10 at the door, with a mandatory donation of school supplies. 7 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
The Dan
Running through Aug. 16, The Dan on 905 N Florida Ave. features a limited-time menu offered at $8.13 from Thursday, Aug. 13-16. Discounted items includecrispy fried chicken wings served with celery, carrots, and housemade ranch, wagyu beef sliders, sirloin-stuffed beef empanadas paired with black bean hummus and fresh pico, and more. Reservations are encouraged through dineatthedan.com.
Celebrate 813 Day at Oystercatchers
Oystercatchers at the Grand Hyatt, 2900 Bayport Dr, offers a one-day-only menu of appetizers, signature cocktails and house wines for just $8.13. Select items include Half Dozen Oysters, the Sunrise Spritz, and select house wines. The free event is all day, and guests are encouraged to reserve a table.
813 Day Market at M. Bird
M.Bird rooftop restaurant bar at Armature Works (1903 Market St.) has local vendors, charm bracelets, trucker hats, sourdough henna, For The Bay clothing and a DJ. The event is free from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. with reservations available.
