EUSTIS, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida man is facing an attempted murder charge after investigators say he dragged two police officers with his vehicle during a traffic stop in Eustis.
The Eustis Police Department released body camera video from Saturday showing officers conducting a traffic stop on the suspect, identified as Shakoi Donovan. According to the arrest affidavit, officers stopped Donovan after seeing his vehicle swerve and drive erratically through Eustis, leading them to believe he may have been impaired.
“Why are you driving like that?” an officer can be heard asking in the body camera video. “First off, you smell like you burned the brakes off this thing.”

Donovan, 28, then tells officers his vehicle has an oil leak. Body camera video shows smoke coming from the vehicle.
The video shows officers repeatedly ordering Donovan to get out of the vehicle. According to investigators, Donovan refused to comply. As officers attempted to remove him, Donovan accelerated, dragging one officer who was partially inside the vehicle before she was thrown onto the roadway. Investigators say a second officer was also struck by the vehicle during the incident.
According to the affidavit, Senior Officer Murray was dragged about 330 feet and suffered serious injuries, including a concussion, blunt force trauma and severe road rash. Both officers were taken to the hospital.
Donovan fled the scene, prompting the Eustis Police Department to issue an active arrest warrant.
According to the arrest affidavit, Donovan was released from the Florida Department of Corrections on May 21, 2026, after serving time for aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill and possession of cocaine.
He is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude resulting in injury, two counts of resisting with violence and three counts of resisting without violence.
