For thirty years, the Hummer was known as a gas-guzzling monument to excess that turned heads and drained wallets in equal measure. The 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV flips that script entirely, and somehow it still turns just as many heads on Brickell Avenue, minus the guilt and noise.

The design still turns heads because people remember the old model. Although now the blocky, unapologetic silhouette has rounded corners, its size hasn’t softened one bit for 2026, and GMC clearly knows better than to mess with it. Yet, GMC is working to keep up with the Musks of the world: the illuminated grille glows like something out of a sci-fi film, like it rolled off a movie set rather than an assembly line.

Under the skin and in your wallet is where things get genuinely wild. Hummer differentiates the trims in part by the number of motors and horsepower. The Hummer EV 2X starts at $97,200, has two motors and up to 570 horsepower, which gets it from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds. The Hummer EV 3X, on the other hand, starts at over $105,000, with three motors and 830 horsepower, which gets it to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds.

One version of the EV 3X can even generate up to 1,000 horsepower with a special configuration of the three motors and battery pack. These numbers feel crazy for a vehicle that weighs more than most small boats.

The Hummer EV also comes with a fun feature called the “Watts to Freedom” launch mode, which combines a countdown with sounds and graphics that makes it feel like you are in the cockpit of a rocket ship.

Range sits in the 300-plus mile territory depending on trim, which is nearly enough to handle a Coral Gables to Disney World round trip, though anyone planning a run down to the Keys will want to map out charging stops along the way. The Extreme Off-Road package adds Crab Walk, the diagonal crab-style steering that lets all four wheels turn together, a party trick that’s more useful navigating tight construction detours than most owners will admit.

Inside, the cabin leans into the same rugged-luxury contradiction as the exterior. Rubberized surfaces and grab handles sit alongside a massive 13.4-inch infotainment screen and a removable glass roof panel system called Infinity Roof, which turns any cruise down Ocean Drive into an open-air affair without fully committing to a convertible.

I enjoyed driving the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV and I think you will, too. Give it a spin and tell me what you think.
