FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS12) — A locked JetBlue plane at a Fort Lauderdale Airport became an overnight shelter for a Florida man who allegedly snuck aboard and fell asleep before a maintenance crew found him.
Deputies with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office say Samuel Lackey was arrested after a JetBlue employee found him sleeping Sunday morning aboard a 2012 JetBlue Airbus A320 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Investigators say the aircraft had been taken out of service for maintenance when Lackey allegedly climbed portable stairs and made his way inside. Surveillance video captured him getting onto the plane, according to authorities.
The unusual discovery raised questions about how Lackey was able to get past airport security measures and access the aircraft.

Despite increased airport security measures, authorities are still looking into how he got past a fence and onto the plane.
Deputies say Lackey entered the aircraft Saturday night after it was pushed back to a parking area. The doors were locked, and he remained inside until about 5:39 a.m., when JetBlue employees arrived and gave him an unexpected wake-up call.
The nap also caused a flight interruption because the Airbus was scheduled to depart, officials told WPLG Local 10.
Lackey now faces an unusual charge: unarmed burglary of an occupied conveyance — an airplane.
As of Wednesday, Lackey was being held at the Broward Main Jail on a total bond of $10,000.
