A man is in jail after police say he randomly punched a woman in the face in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, an attack that was captured by surveillance cameras.
Police said the woman was walking along Southwest 8th Street Thursday when Tavaris Greene randomly punched her in the face. The woman fell to the ground, and Greene ran away.
“Bleeding profusely through her face,” said Monica Zapata, who co-owns Calle Ocho Sports Bar and Grill.
The business’ cameras recorded the attack.
“It’s one of those things that unless you see it you’re like, this is a movie, this is impossible, who behaves this way right,” Zapata said. “They were asking her questions; she couldn’t answer, she was groggy.”
Several people stopped to help the woman. Zapata said she called 911 and got the woman a chair from her business and water while they waited for paramedics to arrive.
“She was very weak, bleeding again a lot, we couldn’t stop the bleeding,” Zapata said.
Police eventually caught up with Greene and arrested him. NBC6 learned Greene was arrested several times in the past. He also spent time in prison in 2008 and 2011 for stealing and burglary.
“Now we learned he’s been arrested several times before, and he’s out on the street. It confuses me how that’s possible,” Zapata said.
An innocent woman is now focused on healing both physically and mentally.
“The fact that it happened once is more than enough; it should not happen ever,” Zapata said.
Greene is charged with felony battery.
