TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Travelers could begin to see impacts of the government shutdown at the gate as the FAA is cutting back air traffic by 10% nationwide starting on Friday.
About 2,000 people fly out of Tallahassee International Airport on any given day.
It’s unclear yet what kind of impact air passengers could see at TLH, or if there will be any flight delays or cancellations in the days ahead.
David Pollard, the City of Tallahassee’s Aviation Department, said right now all operations at the airport are normal, but they encourage passengers to check with their airline for updates.
“Those airlines may be reaching out to the travelers directly, either rebooking their flights or offering a free rebooking as needed to accommodate the slowdown there, so locally we’re not seeing or experiencing any staffing impacts at this time,” Pollard said. “Related to either TSA staffing or FAA traffic control or staffing, however, we continue to monitor that very closely.”

There could be ripple effects from cutbacks in Atlanta, Charlotte and other major cities.
Miami, Dallas and Washington D.C. also expect to face cutbacks starting Friday.
As thousands of flights could be cancelled nationwide, travellers are encouraged to check on their flights and connections before heading to the airport.
