Police detained a man after he fatally shot someone who witnesses say was trying to rob him Thursday in Miami Gardens.
Officers responded to the area of Northwest 204th Terrace and 34th Court, where they found a man who was shot in the face, Miami Gardens Police said.
“I did see a lot of blood. I know that he had three gunshot wounds,” witness Luis Ordonez said.
Footage from the scene shows a vehicle that appeared to be involved in the incident. A slipper, cones and a gun were on the ground next to the car.
The man was airlifted to the hospital, where he died, police said.
Investigators believe he was a possible suspect. According to witnesses, the man they believe was the shooter said he was making a food delivery when someone tried to rob him.
“He said he was actively trying to deliver food, and the guy came up to him trying to rob him, and his first instinct was to shoot,” witness Isabel Ordonez said.
Cellphone video shared with NBC6 shows who neighbors say is the shooter pacing around his car after the incident. Police said the shooter stayed on scene.
The shooter was detained, but he has not been arrested or charged with anything.
The name of the man who died has yet to be released.
