The Village of Palmetto Bay and Town of Cutler Bay are hosting separate events on Aug. 4 to celebrate National Night Out, a community building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships.
Palmetto Bay’s event is called “National Night Out & Back to School FunFest.”
Jennifer Zika, Special Events and Programs coordinator for the village, described what is taking place.
“We will be giving away free backpacks and school supplies while supplies last as well as hot dogs, frozen lemonade, popcorn, waters, and sodas,” Zika said. “Bounce houses, pickleball and tennis activities, as well as resource booths will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. The outdoor movie will begin at 8 p.m.”
She said sponsors are Miami-Dade Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, Baptist Health, Audi Miami South by the Collection, Nicklaus Children’s Palmetto Bay Urgent Care and Outpatient Center, Panter Panter and Sampedro, SouthState, Main Street Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics, EdFed, and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary-St. Richard Catholic Church.
The featured movie is Walt Disney’s Lilo & Stitch.
The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Coral Reef Park, 17535 SW 95 Ave. in Palmetto Bay. Police vehicles and representatives will be onsite during the event.
That same day, the Town of Cutler Bay will host “Backpacks & Blue: A National Night Out Celebration” at Cutler Ridge Park, 10100 SW 200 St. in Cutler Bay, from 6 to 9 p.m.
“Get ready for the new school year at ‘Backpacks & Blue,’” said Maria Herrera-Mendoza, the town’s Special Events coordinator. “The free community event will feature backpack giveaways while supplies last, food, children’s activities, giveaways, a live deejay, and a National Night Out celebration with the town’s Deputy Sheriffs.”
