ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando native Jordan Lee is back training at the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) headquarters in Lake Nona after winning the Wimbledon boys title in July.
“It was very special,” Lee said. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of stuff, a lot of injuries over the past year-and-a-half. It was a pretty emotional moment and really, really happy.”
Lee, 16, won the title in dramatic fashion, rallying to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Before reaching the final, he had to win a qualifier to get into the tournament, becoming the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam boys tournament since 2014.
“Everyone was by my side — my family, all the staff from USTA — and I think I built a lot of resilience and learned a lot from that time,” Lee said. “That’s probably the thing that I remember most.”
Lee said it took a few days for the Wimbledon victory to sink in.
While he enjoyed the win, he said he is not taking time off and has returned to practicing at USTA in Lake Nona.
“The first day or two was a bit hectic,” Lee said. “A lot of people reaching out to say congratulations, which I’m really grateful for. But nothing has changed. I enjoyed the night of the victory and the night after, and just ready to get back to work.”
Lee said the win gives him more confidence as he prepares for upcoming tournaments. His long-term goal is to one day play in the Wimbledon men’s tournament and hold another trophy at Centre Court.
