A man is accused of trespassing on a JetBlue airplane near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and of being caught sleeping aboard, according to an arrest affidavit.
Sammuel Prescott Lackey, 32, faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief and interrupting/impairing critical infrastructure in connection with the Sunday, Aug. 2 incident, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
At around 5:30 a.m. that day, JetBlue employees discovered Lackey sleeping inside the aircraft, an Airbus A320, which was parked at JetScape Services for maintenance, the report said.
Surveillance video showed that the night before, Lackey entered by climbing the portable stairs to the plane and hid in the lavatory. The left rear door had been open for employees to enter and exit during maintenance, deputies said.
Lackey later admitted to deputies that he climbed over the fence to a secure area at FLL, the report said.
Lackey’s discovery caused the delay of the aircraft, and another had to be positioned to take its place, the report said.
The interruption of service was valued at $2,400, deputies said.
He remains booked in Broward’s main jail and was issued a $10,000 bond.
