Charlotte County Transit is on a roll. It just released a public survey as part of its fixed-route feasibility study. The survey is open through Aug. 31. The survey will help shape the future of public transportation in Charlotte County and provide insight into our community’s needs.

Next month, it will premiere its new name, Charlotte Rides, along with new wraps for its buses, featuring the new slogan, Safe. Local. Free. The event is scheduled for 8 a.m., Sept. 1 at its facility at 545 Theresa Blvd., in Port Charlotte.
Transit is also partnering with Community Services to run a free library circulator to help the Port Charlotte community continue accessing library services. The circulator operates between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, providing transportation between the former Port Charlotte Library at 2280 Aaron St. and the Mid-County Regional Library at 2050 Forrest Nelson Blvd.

County awards
I always like to highlight when county departments earn awards from professional associations and service partners.
The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties announced Charlotte County placed sixth in the 2026 Digital Counties Survey among counties with populations between 150,000 and 249,999. This award showcases the nation’s counties using technology to improve government operations, strengthen public services, and deliver better outcomes for residents.
“This recognition is really a credit to our employees and the work they do every day,” Community Development Department Director Ben Bailey said. “It’s nice to see those efforts recognized, and we’ll keep looking for ways to do even better.”
Our Wellness at Work program captured two awards recently.
Cigna Healthcare selected Charlotte County as a recipient of its 2025 gold level Healthy Workforce Designation for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the health and vitality of its employees through a workplace well-being program.

Charlotte County has also been awarded a 2026 Platinum level for Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health, the nation’s top recognition for U.S. employers committed to creating mentally healthy workplaces. The Bell Seal is issued by Mental Health America, the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to promoting the mental health and well-being of all people living in the U.S.
Through the collaborative efforts of county administration, People Operations, the wellness coordinator, the Mental Health Champions Taskforce, and the Wellness Committee, employees now have greater flexibility to use Wellness Leave for medical and behavioral health appointments, wellness programs, health coaching, and other preventive services.
