TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -One local organization that builds beds for children sleeping on the floor in our community is now facing a need of its own.
Last year, Sleep In Heavenly Peace built 612 beds for children in Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties. This year, the organization is on track to exceed that number.
Chapter President John Cousins says the need in our community is massive. So much so, they often can’t keep up with all the applications.
Cousins says they’ve been blessed over the years not to have to pay rent, with people donating spaces and homes.
More Tallahassee news:
Last December, the organization moved into a temporary space. But now, they need to find a new place to bring everything together, and soon.
Otherwise, they may have to pull back on the number of beds they build.
“We’re building 60 beds; I have nowhere to put them right now…If I can’t find a suitable space, we’re going to have to curtail what we’re doing, and I really don’t want to cancel builds; we’re getting to that point because storage is very limited here in Tallahassee.”
Cousins says they’re looking for a space to store everything, including the wood for the beds, sheets, pillows and other supplies.
They’re looking for about 1,200 to 1,500 square feet of space.
If you know of a place that can donate space for Sleep In Heavenly Peace, Cousins says to go to their website, put in your information, or reach out to them on Facebook and send a message.
