OBITUARY

Loeta Cowles Davis

December 5, 1937 – July 17, 2026

Loeta Cowles Davis, age 88, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026. She was born Loeta Grace Cowles on December 5, 1937, to the late William and Janet Cowles of West Hartford, Connecticut. Her family moved to Newington in 1949. Loeta attended Newington High School, where she met the love of her life, Charles Evan Davis (Chick). They graduated in 1955.

After graduation, Loeta attended Nursing School at Hartford Hospital and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Meanwhile, Chick enlisted in the US Navy. They were married in 1958.

In 1962, they moved to Simsbury, CT and raised 4 boys. After the boys were older, Loeta began working second shift as a Nurse at The McLean Home in Simsbury.

In 1990, Loeta and Chick moved to North Ft. Myers, Florida to enjoy the warmer climate. They soon became interested in boating, so in 1994 they moved to a “gulf access” home located in Cape Coral. Loeta and Chick became avid cyclists and would visit Sanibel Island every Sunday for a 30-mile bike ride and lunch at Doc Fords. Loeta also rode her bike several mornings a week when she wasn’t participating in water aerobics. She loved manatees and delighted in seeing them in the wild.

Loeta enjoyed tap dancing in her youth and continued her love of dancing and music throughout her life. Everyone, including the staff at her memory care facility, loved her, where she always lit up the room with her bright eyes and smile, festive clothes and singing. Loeta will be missed for her kind and gentle nature and loving personality.

Loeta was preceded in death by Chick, her beloved husband of 68 years, and her parents, William and Janet Cowles, and her sister-in-law Kay Cowles.

Loeta is survived by her brother Dr. Neill Cowles of Chatham, MA, four sons and daughters in law, Dean Davis and his wife Janet of Barkhamsted, CT; Jeffrey Davis and his wife Janet of Suffield, CT; Scott Davis and his wife Celine of Cape Coral, FL; and Eric Davis and his wife Bonnie of Cape Coral, FL; nine grandchildren; Aaron Cecil, Ryan Davis, William Davis, Amanda Davis, Andrew Davis, Courtney Reed, Adam Davis, Rachel Davis and Megan Reed, and five great-grandchildren; Greg, Weston, Clayton, Brooklyn and Kennedy.
