10-foot, 300-pound alligator shows up near South Florida High School
The gator is 10 feet long and 300 pounds.
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. —
Maybe Coconut Creek High School should change its mascot name from Cougars to Gators.
Three days before classes begin on Monday, an alligator showed up near the school on Friday night.
The 10-foot, 300-pound gator was in a canal at Creek Parkway and Lyons Road, which borders the Broward County School, the Coconut Creek Police Department posted on Facebook.

The agency had some fun with its social media post: “Maybe he just couldn’t wait for the doors to open Monday morning at Coconut Creek High School? Or maybe the canal at the corner of Creek Parkway and Lyons Road, the one that borders the school, is like a Buc-ee’s for gators? Either way, a gator that could’ve played left tackle on Creek High’s football team. ”
The city’s police department reported friends and community partners from the Florida Wildlife helped locate it to Everglades Holiday Park.
The park is situated on 29 acres of wetlands in the Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office posted on July 31 on Facebook, an alligator was found in the baseball bullpen on campus at Tohopekaliga High School in Kissimmee.
