Oklahoma man found dead after car plunges into Cocoa Beach waterway

A 23-year-old man from Oklahoma was found dead Sunday morning after his car crashed into a waterway near the West Cocoa Beach Causeway, according to the police department.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., Cocoa Beach police and fire rescue units responded to the area near the Banana River relief bridge after someone noticed the rear bumper of a vehicle sticking out of the water.

Rescue units located the man deceased in the front driver’s seat of a 2023 gray Nissan Altima, police said.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the car left the roadway while traveling at a high rate of speed and submerged in approximately eight feet of water.

No foul play is suspected at this time, police said.

The vehicle was recovered from the water with assistance from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

This is an active and ongoing traffic crash investigation.
