Miami Autism Dad Victor Antunez interviews Danielle Barreras, Associate Director of Community Engagement at The Children’s Trust, the dedicated funding source Miami-Dade voters created in 2002 to invest in local kids and families. A former Miami-Dade educator whose work centers on literacy and children with disabilities, Barreras leads the program she’s most excited to talk about: The Children’s Trust Youth Advisory Committee, a free leadership program that turns 20 this year and opens for new members in September. The invitation goes to every high school student in Miami-Dade, with an enthusiastic welcome to youth with special needs. Because a teenager with a disability isn’t only served by this work, they can lead it.
