Centennial High School student suffers minor injuries in Port St. Lucie crash
A 16-year-old Centennial High School student suffered minor injuries after police say they crossed Crosstown Parkway against the pedestrian signal and were struck by a vehicle Monday morning in Port St. Lucie. The teen declined medical transport.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
A 16-year-old Centennial High School student suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Crosstown Parkway on Monday morning, according to Port St. Lucie police.
Police said officers responded at approximately 7:08 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of Crosstown Parkway and Southwest Cameo Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation found that the teen attempted to cross Crosstown Parkway against the pedestrian signal and entered the roadway in front of traffic that had the right of way. Investigators said the student told officers they believed they could make it across the road before an approaching vehicle reached them. He was riding a bicycle.
The driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid the collision and struck the teen, police said.
The student sustained superficial injuries but declined medical transport. The teen’s guardians were notified of the incident.
Police said the vehicle involved sustained minor cosmetic damage.
The crash remains under investigation.
