Is there a better time than summer to get a pastrami sandwich in South Florida?

The crowds are gone, you won’t wait in line, and you’ll find a decent place to park. To top it off, it’s National Delicatessen Month, when communities in North America celebrate the centrality of the deli to culture and culinary life.

Two longtime South Florida delis are participating this year with special promotions.

At Pomperdale Famous New York Deli in Fort Lauderdale, customers who order a New Yorker sandwich (hot corned beef and pastrami, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing; $21.99) get a a free bottle of New York Deli Mustard, a beer for $1 and 10% off their order.

In addition, the owners say they’re donating $1 from every New Yorker sold in August to the Jewish Federation of Broward County.
