The Orlando area wound up with four No. 1 seeds in the upcoming state football playoffs after brackets were released by the Florida State High School Athletics Association on Thursday.

DeLand in Class 7A Region 1; Edgewater in 5A Region 2; Jones in 4A Region 2 and Bishop Moore in 3A Region 2  all earned tops seeds, based on FHSAA power rankings. They will have guaranteed home-field advantage through the three rounds of regional play finals. Region quarterfinals kick off the postseason next week.

DeLand and Edgewater actually earned the overall No. 1 rankings for their classes heading into the five weeks of playoff action.

In 11th hour, judge reverses, grants TFA injunction against FHSAA penalties

In a late order from the Ninth Circuit Court of Orange County, Judge Margaret Shreiber signed a temporary injunction, pending a Monday hearing, to allow The First Academy’s FHSAA playoff ban to be lifted. Therefore, the Class 1A Region 2 bracket — which includes Orlando Christian Prep — is up in the air going into next week.

There are 22 Orlando teams in the field as is stands. TFA could become the 23rd.
