Orlando man accused of choking dog he was pet-sitting, police say
ORLANDO, Fla. —
A 35-year-old Orlando man is facing an aggravated animal cruelty charge after police say surveillance video captured him choking a small dog.
The incident happened July 27 at the Timber Sound Apartments off Raleigh Street.
According to an arrest report, an employee was looking through surveillance video to find out who left a motorcycle behind the leasing office. That’s when they discovered a man choking a small dog.
Police say the surveillance video shows the man, who was later identified as Roger Green II, “squeezing the dog’s throat as the dog’s body went limp.” Officers noticed that “after a couple of [seconds], the dog was not kicking its feet or wiggling its body to break Green’s grip.”
When officers spoke with Green, he told them “he was watching the dog for a friend while they were out of the country” and that the dog escaped. Green told officers he ended up chasing after the dog with his motorcycle before eventually catching up to him at the apartment complex. He claims “he grabbed the dog hard because the dog was moving a lot.”
Two days later, officers spoke with the owner of the dog, a 4-year-old Yorkie mix named Meatloaf. When Green returned Meatloaf to her, she told officers he “has not been acting as his normal self and has been trembling frequently and appeared to be limping on both front legs.”
She also noted a small injury to Meatloaf’s right front leg and injuries to the bottom of his paws.
On Aug. 5, Green was arrested at his home. He is facing a charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
Green has since bonded out of jail and has retained a private attorney.
