JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WICS/WRSP)— Jacksonville police will increase patrols from Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8 as part of statewide Labor Day enforcement campaigns targeting impaired driving and seat belt violations.

The Jacksonville Police Department is among more than 200 Illinois agencies participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.

Officers will focus on drivers impaired by alcohol, cannabis or other drugs, as well as drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts.

“Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired,” Jacksonville Police Chief Doug Thompson said. “These decisions save lives.”

The campaign is supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation and federal highway safety funds./
