ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A 45-year-old Port St. Lucie man was killed Monday night after he was struck by a tractor in an active I-95 construction zone.

The incident happened around 10:04 p.m. near Mile Marker 117, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said a Massey Ferguson tractor with a front-mounted rotary sweeper was traveling south in the inside northbound lane, which was closed to traffic for repaving work.

The tractor was driven by a 38-year-old Royal Palm Beach man who worked for Timothy Rose Construction, a company contracted by FDOT.

A dump truck driver had parked in the work zone and exited his vehicle. FHP said the 45-year-old man was standing in the inside lane when the tractor approached and struck him.

He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m.

The tractor driver was not injured and was arrested at the scene on an unrelated warrant.

FHP said no traditional crash report will be available because the incident involved an industrial vehicle in a closed construction zone.
