St. Lucie County officials discuss 2026 master plan for Port of Fort Pierce
FORT PIERCE, Fla. —
St. Lucie County officials discussed the 2026 master plan for the Port of Fort Pierce during an informal meeting in Fort Pierce Tuesday morning, aiming to clarify confusion about the plan’s scope and details.
The port, home to the Derecktor Shipyards where mega-yacht maintenance and repairs take place, is set to see significant changes under the proposed plan. It includes a mega-yacht marine facility to expand the repair area and a support hub for launch and rocket recovery operations, which county officials believe aligns well with the port’s existing capabilities.
“The real interesting aspect for us is we have maintenance, repair and large overhaul of large vessels; well, the industry itself has large tugs, barges, and ships. All those need to be maintenance repaired and overhauled, so you can imagine if you were to bring that industry here in capital dollars, now you’ve funneled a volume of work,” Joshua Revord, the county’s director of port, inlet and beaches, said.

The plan also proposes upgrades to the boat ramps at Harbour Pointe Park and the potential addition of an event center and fishing pier at Museum Pointe Park.
Residents shared their thoughts on the proposed developments.
“The keywords are work and waterfront. I’m a strong believer and supporter of a working waterfront, so I would rather see that than a gated community of condos or high-end hotels and things like that,” Resident Paul Sinnott said.
However, concerns were raised about the history center located in Museum Pointe Park, which some fear could be removed to accommodate the project.

“I don’t want the museum to be moved. I like the historic museum currently where it’s located right now. And I’m not really keen on the mega yachts on Museum Pointe,” said Terry Howard, a resident since 1971.
County officials reassured attendees that the museum would remain in Fort Pierce.
“I mentioned at the meeting that my family is literally in that museum, and I would never let that happen. St. Lucie County is a historic area, and we have our own history that we need to tell,” an official said.
Port officials plan to present the master plan to the City of Fort Pierce and the Town of St. Lucie Village to gather feedback and share it with the board.
