A man wanted in connection with a 2021 homicide in Jacksonville has been arrested in Georgia and is awaiting extradition to North Carolina, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
Christopher Marques Jackson was taken into custody around 6:30 a.m. Aug. 6 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hampton, Georgia, police said.
Jackson is wanted in connection with the death of 25-year-old Dominique Rhodes. Warrants for Jackson were issued June 26, according to JPD.
The homicide happened in the early morning hours of Oct. 24, 2021, outside the Sturgeon City Event Center on Court Street.
According to the original release from JPD, officers responded around 1:12 a.m. that morning to reports of shots fired in the area of Sturgeon City.
Police said a second person, then-18-year-old Alexis Ramsay of Jacksonville, was also injured. Ramsay was taken by private vehicle to Onslow Memorial Hospital before officers arrived and was later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries.
Nearly five years later, JPD said its investigation led to warrants being issued for Jackson.
“The Jacksonville Police Department is committed to the continuous investigation of homicides regardless of when the death took place,” the department said. “We continue to follow up on leads which are discovered or received during investigation.”
Jackson is currently awaiting extradition back to Jacksonville.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact JPD Detective David Peck at 910-938-6416 or dpeck@jacksonvillenc.gov.
