JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 26-year-old Jacksonville man was arrested Thursday afternoon after the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says an officer clocked him driving more than double the posted speed limit on Arlington Expressway — and then refusing to cooperate during the traffic stop.
Traffic stop leads to confrontation
According to the man’s arrest report, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. Aug. 6, on Arlington Expressway. JSO says an officer conducting traffic enforcement saw a silver 2018 Infiniti Q50 traveling above the posted 50 mph speed limit. Using a Dragon Eye laser device, the officer clocked the vehicle at 105 mph, according to the report.
When the officer activated emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the driver made several unsafe lane changes, nearly causing multiple crashes before pulling over, according to JSO.
Suspect resists during traffic stop
Upon making contact with the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, the officer asked him to step out. According to the arrest report, the suspect tensed his body and refused to exit the vehicle.
The officer reached inside the vehicle to unlock the door, and the suspect continued to resist. The officer then presented a taser to gain compliance, according to the report. The suspect eventually opened the door but continued pulling his arms away and tensing his body as he stepped out.
The suspect was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Duval County Jail.
Suspended license adds to charges
A check of the suspect’s driving record revealed his license had been suspended for failure to pay a traffic citation, with notice provided June 16, 2026.
Charges filed
The suspect faces four charges:
Resisting an officer without violence (First-degree misdemeanor)
Operating a motor vehicle at 100 mph or more, threatening persons or property (Second-degree misdemeanor)
Reckless driving (Second-degree misdemeanor)
Driving while license suspended, canceled or revoked (Second-degree misdemeanor)
