Some art asks viewers to look outward. Melodious Monster’s work tends to do the opposite.
The Tampa artist, also known as Kelly Hewitt, is bringing Thought Parade to Sky Puppy Brewing in Ybor City (1313 E 8th Ave) from August 14 through September 6. Her new show is filled with the honesty, silliness, sadness, and curiosity found throughout her work. While the show is on display, visitors can also support local nonprofit Rooted in Play.

A parade of thoughts, feelings, and questions
For Hewitt, Thought Parade is less about a specific subject and more about paying attention to the thoughts that drift through our minds and the things we find interesting.
The title reflects the ongoing parade of thoughts, emotions, habits, and challenges that make us who we are. Rather than searching for neat answers, the artwork embraces the messier side of being human. Some pieces are playful and silly. Others are more reflective, exploring the experiences and observations that shape our day-to-day lives.
With each new show, Hewitt says she feels a little less interested in creating what others might expect and a little more determined to make work that feels authentic.
“This show is made for me,” she says. “I continue to hope that the more niche I am in my work, the more relatable it will ultimately become.”

Art, beer, and a good cause
The show’s opening night on Friday, August 14, promises to be more than a gallery-style reception. Hewitt will be at Sky Puppy Brewing from 7 to 11 pm, giving visitors a chance to meet the artist, check out the artwork, grab a beer, and spend some time with Rooted in Play, whose organizers will be on hand with a few playful activities for visitors to try.
The nonprofit creates opportunities for children to explore, create, and play on their own terms through programs including play clubs and Pop-Up Adventure Playgrounds. On opening night, they’ll bring “loose parts” to the brewery tables, giving adults a chance to experience a miniature version of the play environments they create for children.

Thought Parade opens August 14 and remains on display through September 6 at Sky Puppy Brewing. During that time, visitors can support Rooted in Play through optional donations at checkout, helping the organization continue creating opportunities for kids to explore, create, and connect through play.
