The Department of Homeland Security says ICE plans to spend up to $20 million dollars to purchase thousands of what are called “conductive distraction and de-escalation devices” for officers and agents. Civil rights advocates expressed alarm at the plan.
Last month averaged 76.9 degrees Fahrenheit, eclipsing the Dust Bowl’s July 1936 by an eighth of a degree. The biggest driver of the heat was at night. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that nighttime lows, smashed the old record for hottest minimums by 0.7 degrees. Jeff Masters with Yale Climate Connections explains.
