Hialeah, FL – Hialeah has temporarily closed all city-operated public pools as officials conduct health and safety reviews following concerns about facility conditions.
City officials announced Tuesday that Milander Pool, McDonald Pool and Babcock Pool would remain closed while each location undergoes an individual inspection.
Bucky Dent Water Park is also closed.
The city said the evaluations are being conducted as a precaution, with health and safety experts expected to examine each facility and determine whether repairs or other corrective measures are necessary.
The closures surprised some residents who arrived at the facilities expecting them to be open.
One woman visiting with her grandson told 7News she had traveled to multiple parks before discovering they were closed.
The citywide reviews come shortly after Bucky Dent Water Park reopened following a seven-year closure.
State officials ordered the facility closed again days after its reopening, citing safety concerns and operational violations.
Hialeah Mayor Bryan Calvo visited the water park Tuesday as officials addressed questions surrounding the city’s recreational facilities.
Calvo said conditions at several Hialeah aquatic and park facilities are the result of years of deferred maintenance.
He said his administration is seeking funding to renovate and modernize the properties.
The mayor has formally requested assistance securing $5 million for improvements to the city’s facilities.
Officials have not announced when the pools will reopen. Each location is expected to remain closed while experts complete their reviews and identify any work that may be required.
